FREMONT — Months after abruptly resigning without explanation, Fremont’s former city manager has been charged with embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds for using a city credit card to make personal purchases, according to court records.
In the embezzlement case, Danaj is accused of spending more than $18,000 on his city-issued credit card to make “numerous unauthorized, personal purchases” from December 2019 through March 2021, according to a declaration written by Inspector Thomas Cleary with the district attorney’s office.“These improper, personal charges included the use of the credit card for travel, accommodations, Apple products, medical services, and food delivery,” Cleary wrote.
