Italy’s former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte is being placed under investigation. He is accused of mishandling the coronavirus pandemic that broke out in 2020.
They cited 17 people in the statement because the documents relating to the former prime minister and former health minister were transferred to a separate court dealing with government figures under Italian law, the sources added.

"I face the country with calmness, having worked with the greatest commitment during one of the harshest moments experienced by our republic," Conte said. "It is shameful that a person initially heard as a witness, finds out from newspapers that he is under investigation, it is a shame", Fontana told a radio station on Thursday.
