Former Rep. John Conyers, who co-founded the Congressional Black Caucus and was one of the longest-serving members of the House, has died at 90
WASHINGTON—Rep. John Conyers, 90, whose lawmaking tenure ending in 2017 made him one of the longest-serving members of the House of Representatives, died Sunday.
The Detroit-area lawmaker was first-elected in 1964. He resigned from Congress in late 2017 after facing calls to step down over allegations of inappropriate behavior toward female staff members, which he denied. He was replaced by Rashida Tlaib, who on Sunday evening released a statement on Twitter saying he “never once wavered in fighting for jobs, justice and peace.”
