Angus MacDonald was a member of the SNP for 35 years and served at Holyrood for a decade
A former SNP MSP has quit the party in protest over controversial plans to ban fishing in some parts of the country.
Commercial and recreational fishing would be banned in the zones as well as the harvesting of seaweed. MacDonald, who was an SNP member for 35 years, declined to comment when approached by the Record but confirmed he had quit the party. It now faces mounting anger in island communities over the marine protection plans, which are supported by the Scottish Greens.
"HPMA's will decimate the fisheries sector, will devastate some of our most peripheral communities and will lead to further depopulation from our islands."
