Fifty-five-year-old Couch studied English at Stirling between 1987 and 1991 and has never forgotten the music scene.“When I started putting together a touring itinerary for Dave Masters, I knew I wanted to include the Macrobert theatre – the McBob – as a nod to those times. He added: “The song takes the perspective of a dead rock star, reflecting on the fact that it was only when he died that he started earning a living.
“Initially I was just a regular in the audience, but once I discovered that performers got a free drink, I started bringing my harmonicas and my African drum along and badgering more musical friends to let me sit in with them. “There were plenty of gigs at the McBob, including Aly Bain’s The Boys of the Lough, as well as concerts at the Albert Halls in town, where I saw both Runrig and Texas.
