Four children are in critical condition after they were pulled from the freezing waters of a lake in Solihull.
The children who were in cardiac arrest received “immediate life-support” at the scene and were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they were all in critical condition on arrival. West Midlands Police Superintendent Richard Harris said that he would not confirm whether the children were siblings or their ages or gender at this stage.
One police officer suffered mild hypothermia and was taken to hospital as a precaution. The officer is expected to make a full recovery. He added: “The specialist medical advice that we’ve been given on seen is that given the temperature of the water, given the age of those believed to have entered the water and the amount of time they’ve been in there that this would no longer be a search and rescue operation.”Two of the children were taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the other two to Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham.
