AAA and The Pennsylvania Turnpike are predicting a recover number of travelers for the long holiday weekend from June 20 to July 4, 2023.
Prices at the pump for the Independence Day 2023 holiday weekend are more than $1 a gallon lower than last year. But, the Pennsylvania Turnpike and AAA predict there will be a record number of people traveling by car. Friday, June 30 is predicted to be the busiest travel day for the upcoming, long Fourth of July 2023 holiday.
The heaviest traffic, the commission said, is expected on Friday, June 30, with 750,000 vehicles. The fewest travelers are expected on the holiday itself, July 4, with 390,000. “Much of Covid’s revenge travel is behind us, and thus far this summer, demand for gasoline has been softer than last year, helping to ease the pressure on gas prices. “We may continue to see average prices moderate, especially closer to Labor Day, barring hurricanes or other unexpected refinery outages, with steeper price drops coming after summer. But for now, it’s still not a bad time to get outside and hit the road this summer with far lower prices in every state compared to last year.”“We may be in a bit of a demand lull heading into the July Fourth holiday,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson.
