As great as Nicholas Lyndhurst is in the role, the Frasier reboot highlights the big problem with Alan Cornwall being Niles' unofficial replacement.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary The Frasier reboot admits the problem with Nicholas Lyndhurst's Alan Cornwall being Niles Crane's replacement. Kelsey Grammer has been working on bringing back his iconic character for years before it was picked up by Paramount+. Ideally, Frasier's small screen comeback would have also seen Niles and other beloved original characters.

Alan Is Supposedly Frasier’s First Friend After it became clear that Niles and Daphne wouldn't be part of the Frasier reboot, Grammer and his team had to think outside the box with what the show's premise would be about. Going through several iterations of the project, including a pilot that would have tackled Martin Crane's funeral in Seattle, Paramount+ settled on the titular character moving back to Boston to redeem himself in the city that he once called home.

Throughout Frasier's short time in Boston in the reboot, it sounds like he has gotten through all of them multiple times, to the point that even Eve and Olivia know all about them. The Paramount+ series elected to not show these encounters on-screen, but it establishes that despite being supposedly best friends, Frasier and Alan have limited experiences together, which cheapens their friendship.
