Lee also shared a statement on Thursday, which read, “The Federal Government should never fund research that harms kids. This bill will protect taxpayers from funding spurious research, but more importantly, it will protect kids from the permanent damage this irresponsible research can produce.
The Protecting Our Kids from Harmful Research Act would ban the use of taxpayer dollars from being used in researching youth gender transitions.In the press released announcing the legislation, Lee shared he was joined by several Republican Senate colleagues – Sens. James Lankford, R-Okla., Josh Hawley, R-Mo., Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., Steve Daines, R-Mont., Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Mike Braun, R-Ind., Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Marco Rubio, R-Fla. – in co-sponsoring the legislation.
I'm not too surprised that this bill is coming out. I don't think it's going to go anywhere ... It also demonstrates that we're continuing to legislate against the transgender community," said Sue Robbins of Robbins mentioned the beginning part of the bill, stating, "It put a broad brush on a complex topic, to try and state that the medical care for our youth is inappropriate, when there is actually a lot of study and a lot of process behind it.""I think this is a bill which should be supported. I do not want to fund this kind of research on children, and I think a lot of America would agree," Mason said.
In the meantime, we have a draining lake, we have air quality issues, we have transportation issues, and affordable housing issues," said Robbins. "All of these things should be our priorities. What we need to do is focus on the right things and stop attacking the transgender community."Let's look at the results of the research that has been done in other countries and see what the results are — and those results are not positive," Mason said.
