Taken together, they reveal a wide-ranging portrait of our time while also pointing the way forward—to a different fashion calendar, a different protocol for production, and an altogether different relationship with clothes. Here, 10 retailers weigh in on the future of Buying Fashion.

We’ve been having conversations with our customers, thinking and connecting with them in different ways . We’re now more digital than we’ve ever been—films, designers being able to show their process...that’s going to be important. We’re becoming involved in their workplaces, and their homes, and all that needs to be shown to our customers. We are going to want to tell those stories more—to invite you in, to make what has been an exclusive world much more inclusive.

The question is: Are we as inclusive and nurturing of talent from other cultures, other backgrounds, other races as we can be? It starts when we’re looking at talent in the schools, and that comes from funding. We all have to help create scholarships and funding that can help nurture these talents.It’s a time of great upheaval, and I think that women are bearing the brunt of it—from homemaking and childcare to juggling their jobs.
