Furious Bacup residents hope council will 'do right thing' over 71-house plan as developer submits THIRD application
Residents have voiced their objections to a controversial plan to build 71 houses following the news that the developer has submitted a third planning application.
McDermott Homes have now submitted a third planning application for 71 new houses on the site known as Back Meadows. The public remain concerned that the latest plans do not address the concerns about loss of wildlife habitat and affordable housing that led to two previous planning applications being refused by the council.
The 3.2-hectare site is bounded by Pennine Road, Goldcrest Avenue, St Mary’s RC Primary School, and Fieldfare Way. Planning committee members concluded that not enough affordable housing was proposed and also rejected the application for other reasons. Key concerns from residents include increased risk of flooding, the loss of open space, especially for children, but also for walking dogs and BMX cycling; the loss of wildlife and increased road traffic. Other fears include a lack of school and doctors’ surgery spaces for new households.
