The lead flipped from fellow Democrat David Alvarez
Democrat Georgette Gómez took the lead for the 80th Assembly District seat as the San Diego County Registrar of Voters released the latest election returns Thursday evening.
That reverses the slight lead that Alvarez held on election night, when he took 38.42 percent of votes counted, with Gómez at 36.98 percent. Republican Lincoln Pickard followed with 24.06 percent Thursday, a slight drop from his election night total of 24.6 percent. The vote total released Thursday includes all in-person voting and mail ballots received to date, and makes a 16.3 percent turnout of registered voters. The Registrar of Voters had estimated voter turnout of 15 percent to 20 percent in the race. Ballots mailed by election day and received by Tuesday, April 12, will still be counted, and the Registrar’s office said they expect there may be a small number of additional ballots that arrive by that time.
