The county is undertaking a campaign to encourage people to buy better shades that they’re more inclined to take home. Abandoned tents aren’t just eyesores. Left on the sand, they get twisted and broken, and their plastic tarps can end up going into the peninsula’s protected sand dunes, Diaz said.
