Gareth Southgate is England’s weakest linkWe have an incredible team – one of the best in the world. We weren’t plucky underdogs, and if you picked a combined team based on the tournament, we would have had more players than France in it.
I’m bitterly disappointed, I said this was our best shot ever, at winning the whole thing and it does feel like failure. We lost to the first decent team we faced but we also outplayed them. The stats back this up. We played on the front foot and were just plain unlucky. All in all, we went out playing some brilliant football scoring bucket loads of goals and we just lacked in those moments, like we typically do. The penalties or dodgy red cards, ghost goals disallowed goals , shite referees and pre tournament injuries – something always pops up to hinder us and we never seem to get that little bit of luck we need.
