Who’s to say his presence on Celebrity Big Brother isn’t serving as an additional stick in the spokes?
Kate Middleton’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, is in the current series of Celebrity Big Brother It’s all feeling a bit desperate now, watching yet another associate of the House of Windsor scrape the barrel for a bit of attention. In Tuesday night’s episode, the previously relatively unknown figure said: “I have a feeling that Harry was really, really loved. When they were a threesome – so Kate, William and Harry – they looked really comfortable together.
It’s a narrative we’ve heard many times before. Not just in the case of Harry and Meghan vs the Royals, but whenever a man makes subjectively poor decisions, people are far more comfortable blaming a woman. What I think is worth talking about, however, is the hypocrisy behind Goldsmith’s claim that Harry and Meghan’s stance is insurmountably damaging compared to, say, being a largely irrelevant member of the extended family and going on one of the biggest reality shows in the UK to tease titbits about what is surely an incredibly painful chapter in their lives. Especially now.
In the run-up to the return of the series, women’s domestic abuse charities and viewers alike have been pretty vocal about their disappointment in the fact that Goldsmith was cast at all, given that he pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife in 2017.
