Georgia’s offense seemed to be taking over the game after scoring 17 straight points to take a 24-21 lead. But the Buckeyes lead 28-24 at halftime in part because the Bulldogs’ celebrated defense has failed in two ways.
First, the Dogs have struggled to consistently get pressure on Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud, who has thrown for 238 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Marvin Harrison Jr. The Dogs’ defensive line, led by Jalen Carter, was expected to have an edge on Ohio State’s offensive line but that advantage hasn’t materialized. That has led to the second problem – Georgia’s secondary has been unable to hold coverage against the Buckeyes’ receivers.
Stetson Bennett has not had his best game, with an interception and a couple of other passes that could’ve been picked off. But this game has been more about Georgia’s defense not holding up to this point.
