For the New York Giants and quarterback Daniel Jones to take the next step from playoff contenders to Super Bowl contenders, they’ll need some key players in the offense to step up. One player who may have the greatest potential to do so for New York in the coming season is second-yearIn a way, Robinson always represented the change that was to come with the Giants’ new regime headed by general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll.
Still, Robinson had shown flashes of the player he could be for New York in the six games he played as a rookie. Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka drew up plays that got the ball in Robinson’s hands then let him create yardage after the catch. In that aforementioned game against the Lions, a few of his catches went for more than 15 yards solely because of his ability to out-maneuver defenders and tack on extra yards.
Throughout those six games, he also showed a great ability to separate before the catch thanks to the short-area explosiveness and burst that also made him so successful after the catch. On top of the ease in separation and yards-after-catch skills Robinson showed off, he also proved his high football IQ and great instincts by finding holes in zone coverage and giving Jones an easy target to throw to downfield.
Going into his second season, Robinson has the chance to be a breakout star with the Giants. For one thing, the title of WR1 is still very much up for grabs despite the depth pieces New York accumulated in the offseason. For another, Robinson’s youth and promising, unique skill set give Jones and Kafka an exciting weapon to work with in 2023.
Whenever the second-year receiver is able to return from his ACL injury, he can be the dynamic playmaker the Giants were missing in their receiving corps late down the stretch last season. If and when he excels as he builds on the flashes of talent he showed as a rookie, Robinson will be a big reason the Giants maintain their status as playoff contenders.
