A look at the Giants' injured players.
• Left tackle Andrew Thomas won’t practice Wednesday, “but he is getting better,” Daboll said. “He’s going to be doing stuff with the trainers. He’s getting closer.” Thomas has missed five games since getting hurt in Week 1. The 1-5 Giants have missed him in a huge way.
• The Giants’ offensive line has been majorly banged up. Neal has been playing through an ankle injury, and it is “swollen a little bit” coming out of the Bills loss, said Daboll. Something to monitor in the coming weeks, even if Neal plays this week . Meanwhile, Schmitz has now missed two games, but isn’t a candidate for injured reserve. “I don’t think so,” Daboll said, when asked about that. Peart is an underwhelming backup tackle, but the Giants could use him.
• While placing Ezeudu on IR on Tuesday, the Giants signed two tackles off other practice squads: ex-Giant Tyre Phillips and Josh Miles . Between those two guys and Pugh, the Giants have three new bodies for their ailing line, with Thomas and now Ezeudu sidelined. Clearly, there’s a lot of line-related stuff for Daboll and his staff to sort through this week. That will include Pugh getting some reps at left tackle this week, said Daboll. He is largely unfamiliar with the spot.
“Right now, we’re going to make sure he gets to the games the way we need,” Daboll said. “The ankle wasn’t any worse off . Just natural bumps and bruises from not having played for a while. I’d say he’s in a good spot.”
