Despite the majority of people thinking buskers bring joy to the city centre, the signs have officially gone up with 'persistent offenders' facing fines or having their equipment confiscated.
Glasgow City Council has erected a "code of conduct" for buskers in the city centre to follow despite a consultation finding the performers "liven up the city".
We previously reported how the signs - encouraging good behaviour from street performers - were set to be installed on Buchanan Street this month following concern from businesses. What are the rules? Cllr Angus Millar, the council’s convener for city centre recovery, previously said: “Buskers and street performers are for many people a welcome feature of the city centre experience — and to make this experience as positive as possible, we asked for views on how this activity can best take place.
“In response to this, the council and its partners have identified a series of actions to help promote the buskers’ code of conduct, and respond to instances where some do not respect the code.”
