Emergency services rushed to the B-listed building on Carlton Place in the Gorbals at around 8.05pm on Monday, August 5. Seven fire appliances and two height vehicles were deployed to the scene, as firefighters spent 14 hours bringing the inferno under control.
Police investigating a fire which destroyed the roof of a historic building in the Gorbals have said they believe the blaze was intentionally started.
Images taken at the scene show the extent of the blaze which destroyed much of the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and the building's roof on Carlton Street. It comes as Glasgow City Council has been urged to use Compulsory Purchase Orders, which allows certain bodies to obtain land or property without the consent of the owner, and Compulsory Sale Orders, which requires vacant sites to be sold at auction, to ensure historic sites don't remain empty.
"I have arranged another cross-party Bridge Street and surrounding areas regeneration meeting with relevant stakeholders this month. Glasgow needs powers for CSO's from the Scottish Government and adequate funding for local government.
