At least 12 areas in Glasgow are set to be first in line for a pyrotechnic ban with other Scots cities considering following suit.
Areas of Glasgow are set to ban people from setting off fireworks from their homes in a huge crackdown.
People will still be able to enjoy firework displays that have been officially organised, but it will be illegall to set them off at home under new rules.Glasgow City Council said in a statement: “The Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles Act 2022 gives councils a new discretionary power to introduce Firework Control Zones. We as the council will oversee the process which will facilitate the designation of Firework Control Zones within the city.
“But requests for firework control zones have been received and those people who have submitted applications for a zone are entitled to have their views properly considered and consulted upon before any conclusion is reached.” The worst disorder on November 5 last year took place in the capital's Niddrie district, where police officers pelted with petrol bombs, fireworks, bricks and golf balls.
