Police say they responded to a call regarding"criminal activity" in the area of 53rd and Maryland avenues around 5 p.m.
Officers found a man matching the description of the person allegedly involved in the criminal activity and a pursuit began. During the pursuit, police say officers were shot at from the pursuit vehicle. Officers then returned fire, hitting the man.Details regarding the original call regarding criminal activity have not been released.
