Gray’s hiring appears to be part of an effort on the part of the new ownership to restore industry confidence in the Golden Globe Awards, the standing of which was not helped in recent years by questionable ethical and financial conduct on the part of the HFPA.
The Golden Globes organization further revealed on Wednesday that the new membership board of directors that Gray will oversee, in his capacity as EVP, will be composed of nine people — five independent entertainment or media professionals appointed to the board, four elected from within the Golden Globe Association membership — and will be tasked with selecting, ratifying and accrediting journalists as voting members for the 81st Golden Globe Awards.
