A powerful interview with the mother whose daughter was murdered saw Susanna offer comfort to Doreen Soulsby as they discussed the potential release of a killer
Good Morning Britain can often cover emotive and powerful topics. Emotions were running high in the studio today, with Susanna Reid stepping in to comfort a guest after she burst into tears live on-air. The show had invited Doreen Soulsby to discuss the potential release of the man who killed her daughter Joanne Tulip.
Doreen was clearly struggling as she told her story in the incredibly difficult interview and at one point reached for a box of tissues. Susanna asked: "Tell us about your daughter, tell us about Joanne." Discussing the case, Doreen told the hosts that Ling had: "Confessed to , and even in prison he’s admitting he raped. But the judge at the time chose not to put the rape through the trial because murder was the greater offence." it was an abusive court process and it would upset the family if they’d put it through court. But he’s not a convicted sex offender and the attack was sexually driven.” Ling was handed a minimum of 18 years, but has now served 27 years behind bars.
