My hunch is that Saban doesn’t believe Alabama has the players to win the national championship next season. If he thought Alabama could win another natty, then wouldn’t he have returned for another season as the team’s coach?
“I’m one of y’all now,” Saban said to the reporters gathered around him before the pro-am of the Regions Tradition. “I haven’t thought about that yet,” Saban said. “I’m going to need to do a little research on that, but there’s going to be a lot of good teams and it’s interesting right now to try and figure out who’s who because of the movement of players.
If former Alabama safety Caleb Downs would have transferred to Georgia, then my top two would be flipped. Texas and Ohio State raided Alabama’s roster after Saban retired. Top receiver Isaiah Bond bolted for the Longhorns. Downs shocked everyone when he picked the Buckeyes.
