After former Chairman of the Texas Public Utility Commission Peter Lake’s resignation on Friday, Gov. Abbott has chosen current PUC commissioner Kathleen Jackson as his temporary replacement. The Beaumont native is now the interim chair.
“Kathleen and her fellow PUC commissioners are doing a terrific job implementing the 14 bipartisan reforms that were passed and signed into law in 2021 and working with the legislature in the regular session this year on the PCM design,” said Abbott. “She is appointed on an interim basis to serve as chairman until such time as a permanent chairman is announced.”
Abbott said Lake’s resignation as chairman is effective immediately, but he will stay on as PUC commissioner until July 1.Since August 2022, Jackson has fulfilled her role as PUC commissioner. As an alumnus of North Carolina State University’s Chemical Engineering program, having earned a bachelor's degree, she’s a registered Professional Engineer.
Jackson has been a former member of the Texas Water Development Board from 2014 to 2022, Environmental Flows Advisory Group, Junior Achievement of the Golden Triangle, Lower Neches Valley Authority Board of Directors and Texas Water Conservation Association.
To add, Jackson was a part of the Sabine and Neches Rivers Bay and Estuary Environmental Flows Assessment Program Stakeholders Committee.
