Like during the Senate vote, protesters in the audience multiple times interrupted the proceedings, prompting House Speaker Paul Renner to clear the gallery and close it to members of the public.
Thursday was a much darker day for advocates of abortion access, who say further restrictions will disproportionately hurt low-income women and women of color, drive obstetricians out of the state, and take away a health care option for Floridians and women across the south. The state has served as a haven for abortion for women who live in nearby states with six-week bans or total bans on the procedure.
While such an exception is normally used for lower stakes non-controversial legislation or recognitions like a sports team's victory, House Republicans used their supermajority Thursday to push the six-week ban to a vote. "We chose to put our lives where our mouths were," Tramont said."You cannot tell me that Jacob's life doesn't have value."

Gov. DeSantis surrogates escalate tit-for-tat versus DisneyThere’s a new salvo in the fight to control Disney World. Allies appointed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to take over the resort’s governing board are proposing a resolution to expand their authority weeks after their predecessors stripped it. Supervisors of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District say the board has “superior authority” over land development decisions at Walt Disney World. That includes two tiny Disney-controlled cities in the district. Board members say their predecessors pulled a fast one when they voted to essentially dissolve the body’s powers before the DeSantis appointees took their seats. DeSantis’ feud with Disney started last year over the company's opposition to Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law.
