He told ITV's Robert Peston he thinks there are around 3,500 people at the centre as of Wednesday evening, and he expects numbers to get down to an "acceptable level" within around seven days. The site has a capacity of 1,600. The breach could be set to cost the taxpayer "millions" if the migrants are granted asylum and take legal action.
