Colin Christie says it 'feels like bully boy stuff' as he's threatened with court action and left with fears over debt collectors
A grandad has been threatened with court action as he refuses to pay a 'grossly unfair' parking fine. Colin Christie, 67, now says he fears debt collectors could soon "be banging at the door" due to the row regarding just over 10 minutes spent in a Cheshire car park where he claims he was unable to pay.
After receiving the fine, Mr Christie immediately appealed to the car park operator I Park Services Ltd and claims his fine was reduced to £20 as a result. But, firmly believing that he should not have to pay any penalty, he took his case to the Independent Appeals Service. He told Cheshire Live: "When you went in the meter was horrible. You couldn't read it. I stopped for less than 12 minutes and spent that time queuing behind others with the same problem trying to read the meter because of the sun's reflection and shoddy meter backlight.
"Do they fine you for that? I was trying to pay - everything I did was in good faith. I made a genuine effort to pay. I did not leave the car park and most certainly did not try to park my car without paying. My view is that this car park is just not fit for purpose."
