Fanned by strong winds, two new big wildfires erupted Monday, triggering evacuation alerts for villages southeast and northwest of Athens.
Greece's fire service reported 45 new wildfires in 24 hours, most contained by firefighters, the Associated Press reported.
Roughly 240 firefighters, including 143 from Poland, fought the fire with support from eight planes and nine helicopters.Forty-five new wildfires were reported by Greece's fire service in less than 24 hours.
