Some menu items have increased by 5p or 10p in recent weeks, the bakery chain confirmed
Greggs has revealed that it has raised the price of some popular items on its menu due to higher staff wage bills.
It comes as the high street bakery chain reported a 16.3 per cent rise in underlying pre-tax profits to £74.1 million, for the six months leading up to June 29, with like-for-like company-managed shop sales seeing a climb of 7.4 per cent. Greggs said the profit growth was supported by “better recovery” of cost inflation than a year earlier.
Greggs said it remains committed to its long-term aims to have “significantly” more than 3,000 shops across the UK, having opened 99 new shops and closed 18 to reach 2,524 in the first half. The company has plans to open up to 160 new shops on a net basis by the end of the year. Ms Currie said: "Greggs has made good progress in the first half of the year, further broadening our range of on-the-go food and drink whilst making it more accessible to more customers."
