Photos of the effigy showed it had two braids like Thunberg and it reportedly had a sign stating, 'Greta is your God.'
Italy's environment minister Sergio Costa also shared the photo of the effigy and called it a"criminal act" and"unacceptable."
Nicola Zingaretti, leader of Italy's Democratic Party, said the effigy hanging was"gruesome violence" against Thunberg. As of early afternoon Monday, Thunberg had not tweeted addressing the effigy. She did, however, retweet a couple of posts by the Extinction Rebellion, including one calling people to action:"If not now, when? If not you, who? We need #EverybodyNow! #TheTimeIsNow."
