Since she was a child, Maram Faraj saw death, destruction, and war; that was her reality growing up and living in Gaza. She wants the world to know Palestinians in Gaza are more than just faceless numbers; they are people like her, fighting for a better future.

Although the borderwall closing did prevent violence in Israel, it also stopped innocent Palestinian civilians from traveling. To this day, they have limited mobility.Growing up in Gaza was tumultuous for Faraj, who remembered years of violence and suffering. Some of her earliest memories included Israeli bombings resulting in people she knew and loved being killed.

It was the summer vacation of 2014. Faraj was outside, talking to her teacher, Ghada Abu Eta, who lived just a few houses down. Within moments, an Israeli drone struck, killing her in front of Faraj. The deaths of loved ones were the most painful aspect of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict for Faraj to recount.

Growing up in Gaza also proved problematic for other reasons, including unstable infrastructure resulting in power outages and internet blackouts. The economy also suffers from a lack of employment and opportunity. "It ripped my heart out and I thought I would never be able to achieve my dreams because I live in Gaza," she said.as possible. Faraj went to college and studied English literature and education. She is a writer and trainer, teaching English to fellow Gazans. But her ultimate dream is to visit America and one day become a flight attendant.
