San Diego records its second shutout in two days
The San Diego Gulls could have been forgiven if they required directions to the dressing room prior to Saturday night’s game against the Ontario Reign at Pechanga Arena. The Pacific Division rivals were back at it for the Gulls’ return from an eight-game, 22-day road trip and this time, San Diego cruised to a 4-0 win.
Tight defense in front of Dostal, avoiding careless turnovers that have plagued them at times all season and goals from Trevor Carrick, Nikolas Brouillard and Groulx helped the Gulls put together one of their most complete efforts of the season, one that seemed to pour into Saturday’s excellent showing.
Since Jan. 7, Dostal has posted a mark of 8-4-0 with two shutouts, a 2.32 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage to all lead all qualifying AHL goaltenders. The 21-year-old Dostal remains an intriguing prospect for the Anaheim Ducks, who drafted him in the third round of 2018 draft and have called him up twice this season.
