A gunman in a black car fired multiple shots in a busy area of downtown Denver around the time bars close early Saturday and escaped police pursuit, according to Denver police.
Nobody was hurt in the gunfire at 1:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of 15th Street, despite the presence of numerous people in the area near Larimer Square, Denver police said in a news release Saturday.
A uniformed, off-duty Denver police officer working security at a nearby nightclub fired at the gunman, but it was unclear whether the gunman was wounded. On-duty officers stationed in a police car at 15th and Larimer streets attempted to pursue the black sedan, but the car fled at “a high rate of speed,” according to the news release.
Denver police are asking anyone with information about the vehicle or incident to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the State Patrol and the police department’s homicide unit will investigate the officer’s decision to fire a gun, according to the release.
