H-E-B has hired more than 700 people to operate each of its new local stores, which is more than twice the staff size of an average supermarket or a Walmart Supercenter.“We also hope H-E-B will bring folks from further east of us to shop in Rockwall,” said Johannesen who said he first discovered H-E-B in the 1990s as a student in College Station.
The Rockwall site is on the southwest corner of I-30 and John King Boulevard east of car dealerships Honda Cars of Rockwall and Clay Cooley Hyundai.
“There’s more retail coming and it’s just an exciting time to be in Prosper,” Bristol said. “We’ve been very pleased to work with the H-E-B development team.” More than 1,000 housing permits have been issued in each of the last three years, he said. The cost of land may slow down the pace of housing development, Bristol said, but the city is now turning to building a commercial corridor around the tollway and Highway 380.The San Antonio-based grocer, which also operates six Central Market stores in North Texas, opened two H-E-B stores last year in Frisco and Plano.
