The Yankees have faced criticisms for relying too heavily on analytics and/or their analytics group not being up to par with other top organizations around the league.

Steinbrenner and Cashman have said the Yankees strike the right balance between analytics and pro scouting, but it appears the former will be under the microscope this offseason.

With the Yankees getting closer to being eliminated from playoff contention by the day, they will have a longer offseason than usual to undergo the organizational autopsy. The Yankees were 36-25 on June 4, the day after Aaron Judge tore a ligament in his big right toe while slamming into the right-field wall at Dodger Stadium, but have gone just 29-44 since then.

That included a 7-18 free-fall from July 30-Aug. 27 in which they spiraled out of playoff contention, leading them to turn their attention to the future. Brian Cashman recently admitted the Yankees’ season has been a ‘disaster.’“We’ll learn a lot in September and we’ll learn a lot in the spring,” Steinbenner said. “That’s why I didn’t want to trade these guys away at the trade deadline. We’ve traded away too many guys the last few years. So, I think it will be exciting.
