Ferraro says conversations with Hallmark have already begun. "They have been very receptive to hearing from LGBTQ people and allies on this," he says,"and I think that going forward they will prioritize diversity inclusion, not only for LGBTQ people, but people of color and people with disabilities, other marginalized groups that don’t see themselves reflected right now on the Hallmark Channel.
"If you’re focused on families, there are diverse families in this country too, so you would think that if that were really your niche, you’d be going after Latino families and black families by including more characters in your shows that are members of those groups," Hunt says.
