Police have recovered eight handguns and three pipe bombs during a pre-planned operation against the East Belfast UVF on Friday night.Police officers and colleagues from the Paramilitary Crime Task Force carried out four searches of a number of residential properties and one business premises in the Lower Newtownards Road area.The four men - aged 34, 47, 49 and 51 - were arrested at the scene and have been taken to Musgrave Police Station for questioning.
He also confirmed that eight firearms described as pistols, a large quantity of ammunition and three pipe bombs were seized along with two vehicles, balaclavas and UVF emblems and flags during the searches on Friday evening and into the early hours of Saturday. "East Belfast UVF continues to be involved in a range of paramilitary crime, including violence, intimidation, money laundering and drug dealing causing harm to their own communities.
