Allegedly drunken Mercedes driver may have been going 100 mph when he rear-ended deputy

A Harris County deputy patrol vehicle was hit by a speeding drunk driver on the Tomball Parkway Friday night. An allegedly drunken driver was going over 100 mph when he rear ended a Harris County deputy's patrol vehicle Friday night, authorities said.

Officers said a white Mercedes Sedan was speeding down Tomball Parkway a little after 11 p.m. when he struck the deputy’s patrol car,The deputy was not responding to a call so he did not have his lights or siren on at the time, deputies said. He was taken to the hospital, said Sgt. B. Bondurant with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy was"compressed on the airbag and my husband and father-in-law pulled him out,” said Mackenzie Grant, who witnessed the crash.

When the Good Samaritan family approached the deputy, he advised them to go help the driver in the sedan first, she said. “He told my husband and father-in-law to go grab the other guy before helping him. Another police officer got him out of the car… and got him safe,” Grant said. Bondurant confirmed that the driver was a 45-year-old Hispanic man who was allegedly drunk and speeding on the parkway. He will face charges, officials said.
