An opening has been created by the decision by Judge Malachy E. Mannion who sits in Scranton to take senior status effective Jan. 3, 2024.
President Biden has nominated the Middle District’s chief Magistrate Judge Karoline Mehalchick to fill the vacancy. She is awaiting confirmation by the full Senate.
Mehalchick, if confirmed, and Munley will sit in Scranton, Welsh said. That opens the possibility Mannion’s replacement will be in Harrisburg, he said. A commission chaired by Neil T. O’Donnell, founder of the O’Donnell Law Office in Kingston, will be established to interview applicants and submit a list of recommended candidates, the lawmakers said.
