St. John Properties shared a conceptual plans for the property during a Swatara Township meeting on Tuesday night.
, the mall’s owner, shared plans to transform the 60-acre property off Paxton Street in Swatara Township.
Before the company can proceed with plans, it will need to clear several hurdles, including filing for rezoning and submitting land development plans. Sean Doordan, executive vice president of acquisition and growth for St. John Properties, said the buildings will offer “tremendous versatility and flexibility.” They will be built speculatively before leases are signed, creating an ecosystem of mixed tenants including churches, schools, medical offices and retail, he added.
The mall opened in 1969, and over the years retailers such as Macy’s, Hecht’s, Lord & Taylor, JCPenney and Boscov’s operated stores there. As early as 2007, it seemed the mall was on the verge of a resurgence with the addition of Bass Pro Shops and Great Escape Theatre.Previous owners Feldman Lubert Adler Harrisburg LP undertook a lofty plan to revitalize the mall.
