🚁 A former colleague of the Prince of Wales has revealed how the heir to the throne “kept out of sight” while working as an air ambulance pilot
from 2015 to 2017, utilising his training as an RAF search and rescue pilot to “help significantly” at the scene of incidents.
Matthew Jones, the current chief executive and former Head of Operations at EAAA, described the Prince as “a great pilot and a great member of the crew who was liked by us all”.He said the team had “processes in place” to ensure that his presence “would never have an impact on the care that we delivered to our patients”, adding: “It never did, to my knowledge.”: “For the large part, he kept out of sight but he did also help out on scene significantly.
The former RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot worked as a co-pilot transporting patients to hospital from emergencies Paparazzi would sometimes come to the Norwich base to photograph the air ambulance, but Mr Jones said they often captured the wrong helicopter. “They just came and stood at the fence near the air ambulance and thought that every yellow aircraft that came and went had Prince William in it,” he said.
