”Every city in N.J. must have a civilian complaint review board, with subpoena power and investigative power,” said Larry Hamm, director of the People’s Organization for Progress. “Why is it that Paterson, which is only 10 miles from New York City, has no review board, but the city of New York has had one for 66 years?”
Authorities said multiple law enforcement officials and family members attempted to get Seabrooks out of the bathroom peacefully for hours. Authorities say police used more than 15 forms of non-lethal force in attempts to subdue Seabrooks before he lunged toward the officers with a knife in his hand and Officers Anzore Tsay and Jose Hernandez shot him. He was taken to Saint Joseph’s Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 12:51 p.m.
