In absence of a statewide wage deal, the union is targeting its effort where it thinks it can secure support, starting with city councils. The union’s plan is to eventually expand these efforts to all other health care workers, she said.

“It’s hard because sometimes you don’t get to see your family. You come home at 9:30 pm, you eat dinner, sleep, wake up and do it all over again,” he said.
