Rain will change to snow later Wednesday night with heavy snows expected all day Thursday. CLEVELAND, Ohio - The snowstorm we’ve been talking about all week is finally here. Rains will continue the rest of the day on Wednesday, changing over to snow later tonight.
The National Weather Service’s forecast calls for much of Northeast Ohio to see as much as 2-4 inches of snow fall Wednesday night with another 3-7 inches predicted during the day on Thursday. Thursday’s highs are only expected to reach the middle 20s. Snows will be heavy at times, impacting visibility. An additional 1-3 inches of snow is expected to fall Thursday night as lows drop into the teens. Friday will see things calm down with highs only in the upper teens.
The current weather track has the cutoff for the heaviest local snowfalls landing just south of Mansfield and tracking Northeast on a line to the south of Andover and Meadville, PA. A second band, including Wooster and Ravenna, could see 6-8 inches of snow. At present, Akron is right on the line between the two zones, so snowfall for that are could vary depending on if bands push more to the north or not. Lastly, Canton and Youngstown areas could see 4-6 inches of snow.
. However, areas more to the south and east in the state could see greater icing and more chance for slick road and downed power lines. As always, local conditions may very, so exercise caution if you must travel tonight or tomorrow.Cleveland sunrise - 7:36 a.m.There’s a slight chance that light snow flurries will develop Friday night. The big news is that it will again be cold with lows around 3 degrees. Sunshine returns for the weekend with highs in the 20s on Saturday and low 30s on Sunday.
