Hi Voltage Indoor Karting in Medina recently partnered with the Medina County Juvenile Detention Center to provide passes for free races to juvenile offenders for good behavior during their detention period.
MEDINA, Ohio --- When Medina County Juvenile Detention Center Superintendent Ron Stollar proposed a Behavioral Level System program in 2015, some within the facility had their doubts.
He said the average stay at the Medina County Juvenile Detention Center is around two weeks, with the majority of the incarcerated juveniles – ages 10 to 21 – charged with domestic violence, drugs, or sex offenses. Recently, the program has added its highest Honoree level, in cooperation with Hi Voltage Indoor Karting, at 333 Foundry St. in Medina. Those reaching this level of the Behavioral Level System will recieve free passes for races at Hi Voltage upon their release from the center.
Millikin readily admits, however that she was dubious of the Behavioral Level System concept when Stollar first floated it to the staff. “Prior to the level system, he had been in four or five times,” Stollar said. “He was always defiant. He just did not care. Out of nowhere, when we put the system in place, he rose to level three as quickly as possible. I asked him, ‘what is going on?’ He said ‘my mom and dad have always told me I wasn’t going to be good at anything so I wanted to prove to myself I could do this.’”
