The former Easter Road favourite has high hopes for his old side heading to Tynecastle looking for a first victory on enemy turf in almost four years.
Hibs icon Pat McGinlay reckons Joe Newell’s swagger is key if the Hibees are to be giving it big licks in Edinburgh on Saturday night. The Easter Road side head to Tynecastle hunting their first victory in enemy territory since Boxing Day 2019.
“He looks the part, he’s got that silky way he runs, he’s a great passer of the ball and sees things quickly. He has that swagger about him which is so important in the big games. “And the fans are on Joe’s side because they see that he works hard and tries to get others involved in the game. He looks like he can handle himself and if he has a bad game it won’t affect him.
Home advantage might swing the odds in the Jambos favour but the 56-year-old knows Hibs could be the beneficiaries of a hostile home crowd if they get their noses in front. He said: “It doesn’t matter if it’s the first or last derby of the season - it’s always a statement to get one over your rivals.
“If I could go back and enjoy it more then I would. That’s what I’d tell any young player - these are the best days of your career. That game also properly announced the arrival of another player McGinlay reckons could swagger with the best of them.
