The high school scene is booming too, but is battling misconceptions from adults and fundraising. The UIL recognizing it as a sanctioned sport would help, but isn’t the fix-all. Texas isn’t exactly behind other states, but it could get ahead of the curve. DISD started its esports program in 2019 with the hopes of finding 20 schools to participate. Angie Nuno, project manager for student activities at DISD, didn’t want to “be the bad guy” when over 60 schools showed interest a week later. So DISD got every school involved.
The district wanted in early and made sure students got exactly what they needed. Even then, help was still needed.Esports Stadium Arlington She watched kids follow their dreams when she helped kickstart the BISD esports program in 2019, but the district already had a recipe in place for new career paths. She was asked to launch the BISD space program 2014. That was a resounding success as students were published in research journals and even sent concrete to the international space station.

Just because the pros had a difficult path doesn’t mean the next generation has to face the same difficulties.Esports being recognized as a sanctioned sport would change things drastically at Allen High school. They start school late, and esports players were late to 4:30 p.m. matches because their extracurricular activities kept them longer.
“We offer stipends to all the teachers that are participating,” said DISD director of student activities Leonidas Patterson. “We make sure the students have all the equipment they need to participate and if they have a classroom designated as their esports classroom, we make sure they have the laptops, peripherals, game and licenses.”
