The Florida High School Athletic Association softball season begins on Monday across Jacksonville and Northeast Florida. The opening week begins the march for hundreds of Sunshine State schools on the way to the 2022 FHSAA championship tournament, set for May 24-28 at Legends Way Ball Fields in Clermont. Three Jacksonville-area teams — Episcopal, Ridgeview and University Christian — qualified for the state finals in 2021. The area's most recent state champion was Trinity Christian in 2019.
